M E E T I N G S

Our Club meets the first Tuesday of each month ( check dates below) from September through June (July / August we're busy diving) at 7:30 PM. These meetings include guest speakers, slide and video presentations, and educational programs, in addition to regular club business.

Due to Covid 19, most of our 2020 meetings were held by Zoom. For the forseable future our 2021 meetings will also be via Zoom. When possible we will move back to our regular location in St Catharines, Ontario.

Meetings are open to all for both the business and presentation portions of the meeting.

For our June 7, 2022 meeting David Gilchrist will be our guest speaker. The topic will be "Sherkston Quarry".

Biograohy

David Gilchrist, an NDA member, is a former presenter and Master of Ceremonies at Shipwrecks.2022 marks his 52nd year diving, with his initial training with the Aqua Knights of Hamilton, in 1970. He is a former ACUC, CMAS, DAN and PADI MSDT Instructor. He has been an active member of the Ontario Marine Heritage Committee(OMHC), participating in numerous archaeological programs with this group.

An avid underwater photographer, his award winning photographs have been displayed at Underwater Canada, the Vancouver Aquarium, the Ontario Science Centre, libraries and galleries. They have also been published accompanying articles in several magazines and also in  children’s books.

After a first diving program at Resolute Bay in 1987, in 1989 he was the recipient of a Canada Council grant, through the Arctic Awareness Program, to complete an underwater photography project in Canada’s High Arctic. He is more prone nowadays to be found in warmer waters having enjoyed trips to the islands of the  Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Chuuk Lagoon and the Red Sea.

David will be speaking on one of the most popular dive sites in the Niagara Region.

“Sherkston Quarry”

The description and photos of this dive site greatly interested me when I was taking my basic dive course. A locomotive underwater still sitting in the tracks?  When I moved to the Niagara Region, in 1970, it was very popular and regularly visited. I have been intrigued with its history and started to put together this presentation.
